Infographic to pair with Simmer's writing on the culture and history behind fried rice

Simmer is a mobile app startup founded by U.Chicago alumni in 2019. Often dubbed "Yelp-2.0", the app allows users to rate and review individual dishes, as well as like/follow other users to personalize their own profiles. With complete menus logged from restaurants in multiple cities, the app ultimately functions as not only a directory for the average foodie searching for their next meal, but also as social platform for food enthusiasts to connect and celebrate a common passion.

As a one of several summer initiatives, this Medium article takes a deconstructed-dish approach in introducing the fried rice. Though people take liberty in exploring variations in cooking fried rice, this article goes in-depth with the historical origins and value of each ingredient that is ultimately combined to create the classic Chinese meal.

The breakdown of fried rice and its essential ingredients, all presented as a place-mat-esque visual.
